Oooh, I just love a good book. Reading is one of the few things that lets me escape the craziness of life, if only for a little while. My favorite time to read is late at night, when the whole house is dark and quiet. I clip a book light to a wedge of pages, settle into my cushy down pillow, and will my eyes to open … so I can at least enjoy a few pages before I fall asleep. It is a restorative way to end the day.
Below is a list of some of my recent picks. A few disclaimers: If I like an author, I tend to read all of his or her books, so be prepared for repetition. Also, I get most of my books from the local library, which is why I am usually a few months behind on any new releases. I hope you get a chance to enjoy these! And please do let me know if you have suggestions; I am always interested in recommendations.

Hello Nevine! Thanks for the comment! Let’s stay in touch! – Marie
Hi – thanks for sharing your favs. I am currently reading “Will Write for Food” – what a great resource and guide for food writers and bloggers! I really appreciate the experiences and expertise of the bloggers included in this book – it will help me enhance my food blog (Simply Eating Better) and really connect with my readers.
Hi Tonya! Just visited your blog and I’m sure I will be back! I love the picture of the turnips! Yes, Will Write for Food is a good one to have on hand. Another is the Recipe Writers Handbook. I’ll add that to my page in case you want to check it out. Stay in touch – M
Nice subject great site
Hi Marie,
Love your blog – please visit http://www.betterbaking.com and drop me a note so I can log you in. As for your love/hate relationship with uncertainty, at least you love it a bit
. I can only suggest for life, as I already appreciate in my recipes: however it turns out, it will be ok. Add a cup of ‘this too shall pass’ and a some meditation. Love your reviews – I also review food movies – and heartily recommend Mostly Martha among other culinary cinematic gems.
Hi Marie – just took a stroll through your post about the Taste of Austin – looks like it was a lot of fun! And your recipes look amazing. I did a cooking demo at the Southern Women’s Show a few months ago – I can relate to all the things running through your mind while on the stage and trying to look “relaxed”.
I picked up a copy of your cookbook from a used bookstore this past weekend. Can’t wait to dive in – looking for some good whole food plant based lunch recipes for busy professionals to link to on my blog http://www.thelunchjunkie.com
Tell me about your upcoming PBS show……..
Great stuff, Marie. Thanks for posting with the LinkedIn Gotta’ Eat group. I’ll be in touch – Bruce
Hey Bruce! My pleasure! And thank you for starting the group!
Hi darling, I just read Ruth’s “tender” and am hooked, after looking at your list I can see we share so many similar reading tastes. Thanks for sharing, Coryanne
Hi! SO nice to hear from you! Have you read her other books? I loved Garlic and Sapphires too. I’m actually not reading anything right now … any suggestions? Would love to know your other favorites! Talk to you soon on Twitter! Lots of love -Marie
